Watching the train go by without being able to board

Last week, I learned something that really shook me. A person in a group for people suffering of renal failure in Quebec finally got a kidney after 4 and a half years of dialysis. This person’s blood type is O+, like me.

Honestly, I never even imagined that I might have to wait that long to get a kidney and start living normally again. In addition, my kidney failure due to Polycystic Kidney Disease (PKD) stagnates just before the time when dialysis would be relevant, which implies that I do not earn the points related to the waiting time while we are on dialysis.

But that doesn’t mean I don’t have the symptoms of end-stage kidney disease, though.

What this information changes for me

As I understand it, someone who is starting dialysis today and who has just been added to the waiting list for a kidney is going to get one before me. I understand the principle.

But… that means I’m going to wait for how long?!

It shook me. And once again, the importance of this site and your sharing of my content has become a priority, not just a hobby. Without finding a living donor, who knows how many years I will have to wait at home, with terrible symptoms, without being able to start my family.

It put everything in perspective.

I am told not to put too much pressure on myself. But while I’m waiting for this much-needed transplant, I feel like the train of my life continues to roll without me.

It was not life I had planned when I finished my Master of Business Administration 4 years ago, that I got while returning to school while I worked full time. It wasn’t the life my boyfriend and I planned when we decided when we would have children.

Sharing to give life

That’s where you come in.

With each sharing of my story in your networks, you multiply the chances that my story will reach someone who will want and can give me a kidney. Every share you make allows me to reach people I can’t reach on my own.

What will save my life will be one of you, who will share my web page, an article I wrote that this person will have found relevant, or even my facebook page, and this sharing will be seen by the person who will change my life forever.

How to share to have the most impact possible

Take the time to think about it. What did I write that touched you, and that you think might resonate in your networks? When you share, take the time to write why you’re sharing it, and ask for it to be shared again.

And then, when you read the upcoming content, keep the reflex to share if it speaks to you. It can make the difference for me between living the life I want to have, or watching the train of my life pass without being able to board it…

Thank you ♥ See you soon!
